Laptop Support Found – 8 Laptops Purchased

Thanks to Return Peace Corps Volunteer Charless Brennick (Paraguay) and his company InterConnect, BECA has purchased 8 laptops for our university students. Once we conquer Salvadoran customs, they will be on their way…

Thank you Return Peace Corps Volunteers. Charles Brennick, an RPCV from Paraguay, lives in Seattle and started InterConnection in 1999 to provide refurbished laptop and desktop computers to charitable organizations around the world.

He will provide 8 laptops to BECA for a mere $175 each. Make a donation today and make a Salvadoran student very happy. They all report borrowing of computers from classmates, especially late at night when they are not in use by their owners. This is a great opportunity. Total fundraising goal = $1,600 (includes $200 s/h). They will ship right to El Salvador for pick up by our students.

Rene receives additional scholarship

Rene applied for and successfully won a scholarship from the Salvadoran government. Scholarships in El Salvador are given solely to lower income students who have shown academic excellence. Rene’s scholarship will provide him with $270 more each month. He will be saving the first several months to purchase a laptop. After that purchase, BECA will prorate his monthly allowance. Congratulations Rene!!

BECA MISSION – BECA was formed to support rural youth of Central America pursue higher education and enable them to break the cycle of poverty pervasive in their communities.

BECA VISION – BECA envisions a world where citizens have access to quality education, and through it, are empowered to seek greater opportunities beneficial to themselves, their communities and their country at large.

Equal access to quality secondary and university education in El Salvador is greatly needed. The disparity among urban and rural students is enormous: less than 2% of the rural population in the country have completed more than 13 years of education, compared to approximately 16% of the urban population.
